Not replying to the e-mail you might have thought that the sender didn't realize that you have read it. But you may not know that the e-mail message sent to you is being tracked. Although the issue is old, it has come in a discussion because a new Silicon Valley-based e-mail startup company launched an e-mail tracking service for a monthly 30 dollars.
Vice President of Design Platform Investigation, Mike Davidson said that this e-mail app will help users track their sent emails. This new app called 'Reed Receipts' will tell the sender when their messages are being opened or read and from which devices those massages are being read from it. Even the e-mail receiver's location can also be tracked.
What is pixel tracking?
Most e-mail tracking programs use pixel tracking. In this case, some invisible images are added to the e-mail. As a result, the person who sends the e-mail knows that how many times his message has been read. The e-mail sender is able to track whether you have clicked on any e-mail link. There are thousands of such tools available for e-mail tracking, which can be used to monitor e-mails sent.However, Davidson claims in his blog post that such e-mail tracking can put users at risk, especially users who do not know their e-mail inbox is being tracked.
